SUMMARY:Yin & Yang Wagashi Workshop ☯️ Taoist Philosophy × Wagashi Making × Tea
DESCRIPTION:Yin & Yang Wagashi Workshop ☯️\nTaoist Philosophy × Wagashi Making × Tea\n“One Yin and one Yang — this is called the Dao.” \nWhat if Yin and Yang were not only ideas to think about\, but something you could create\, see\, touch\, and taste? \nInspired by the traditional Chinese philosophy of Taiji and Yin-Yang\, this hands-on cultural workshop brings together Taoist thought\, wagashi making\, tea\, and Eastern aesthetics. \nWe’ll begin with a friendly introduction to the meaning behind the iconic Yin-Yang symbol — exploring ideas of balance\, transformation\, interdependence\, and harmony. \nThen comes the fun part: creating your own Yin-Yang inspired wagashi. \nNo previous knowledge of Taoism\, philosophy\, or sweets making is required. \nCome make\, taste\, and explore with us. \n☯️ 01 | Discover Taiji & Yin-Yang\nWhy is the Taiji symbol black and white? \nDo Yin and Yang really mean “good” and “bad”? \nWhy is there Yang within Yin\, and Yin within Yang? \nThrough an accessible introduction\, we’ll explore how traditional Chinese philosophy understands balance\, change\, and the relationship between seemingly opposite forces. \nRather than two fixed opposites\, Yin and Yang offer a way of understanding a world that is constantly moving\, transforming\, and seeking harmony. \n🍡 02 | Make Your Own Yin-Yang Wagashi\nNow it’s time to turn philosophy into something delicious. \nWith step-by-step guidance\, you’ll create your own wagashi inspired by the Taiji and Yin-Yang symbol ☯️. \nThrough color\, shape\, and composition\, an ancient philosophical idea becomes something you can create with your own hands — and eventually eat. \nEach participant will create their own interpretation of Yin and Yang. \n🍵 03 | Tea\, Sweets & Conversation\nAfter completing our creations\, we’ll enjoy tea and taste our handmade wagashi together. \nThis is also a chance to relax\, meet new people\, and continue the conversation about Taoist philosophy\, Eastern culture\, aesthetics\, and how ancient ideas of balance can still speak to contemporary life. \nMore than a sweets-making class\, this is a small cultural experience at the intersection of philosophy\, art\, food\, and everyday life. \n🏮 From Tang Confections to Wagashi\nWagashi is today recognized as a distinctive and highly developed tradition of Japanese confectionery. \nIts long history also reflects centuries of cultural exchange across East Asia. \nDuring Japan’s Nara period\, confectionery traditions and techniques associated with China’s Tang Dynasty\, including Tōgashi (唐菓子 / Tang confections)\, were introduced to Japan through cultural exchange. \nOver the centuries\, these influences developed alongside local Japanese ingredients\, aesthetics\, tea culture\, and confectionery techniques\, contributing to the rich wagashi traditions known today. \nFor this workshop\, we return to the ancient Chinese philosophy of Taiji and Yin-Yang and explore it through the art of wagashi — bringing together cultural histories through form\, color\, taste\, and hands-on creation. \n✨ What You’ll Experience\n\nAn accessible introduction to Taiji and Yin-Yang philosophy\nGuided wagashi-making demonstration\nHands-on creation of Yin-Yang inspired wagashi\nTea experience\nEnjoying your handmade sweets\nCultural conversation and community connection\n\nAll materials are provided. No previous experience is required. \n👥 Who Is This For?\nPerfect for anyone interested in: \nEastern culture • Yin & Yang • Taoist philosophy • Wagashi • Tea • Art • Design • Hands-on cultural experiences \nYou don’t need to know anything about Taoism or know how to make sweets. \nCome on your own or bring a friend — everyone is welcome.
