SUMMARY:Yin & Yang Wagashi Workshop ☯️ Taoist Philosophy × Wagashi Making × Tea
DESCRIPTION:Yin & Yang Wagashi Workshop ☯️\nTaoist Philosophy × Wagashi Making × Tea\n“One Yin and one Yang — this is called the Dao.” \nWhat if Yin and Yang were not only ideas to think about\, but something you could create\, see\, touch\, and taste? \nInspired by the traditional Chinese philosophy of Taiji and Yin-Yang\, this hands-on cultural workshop brings together Taoist thought\, wagashi making\, tea\, and Eastern aesthetics. \nWe’ll begin with a friendly introduction to the meaning behind the iconic Yin-Yang symbol — exploring ideas of balance\, transformation\, interdependence\, and harmony. \nThen comes the fun part: creating your own Yin-Yang inspired wagashi. \nNo previous knowledge of Taoism\, philosophy\, or sweets making is required. \nCome make\, taste\, and explore with us. \n☯️ 01 | Discover Taiji & Yin-Yang\nWhy is the Taiji symbol black and white? \nDo Yin and Yang really mean “good” and “bad”? \nWhy is there Yang within Yin\, and Yin within Yang? \nThrough an accessible introduction\, we’ll explore how traditional Chinese philosophy understands balance\, change\, and the relationship between seemingly opposite forces. \nRather than two fixed opposites\, Yin and Yang offer a way of understanding a world that is constantly moving\, transforming\, and seeking harmony. \n🍡 02 | Make Your Own Yin-Yang Wagashi\nNow it’s time to turn philosophy into something delicious. \nWith step-by-step guidance\, you’ll create your own wagashi inspired by the Taiji and Yin-Yang symbol ☯️. \nThrough color\, shape\, and composition\, an ancient philosophical idea becomes something you can create with your own hands — and eventually eat. \nEach participant will create their own interpretation of Yin and Yang. \n🍵 03 | Tea\, Sweets & Conversation\nAfter completing our creations\, we’ll enjoy tea and taste our handmade wagashi together. \nThis is also a chance to relax\, meet new people\, and continue the conversation about Taoist philosophy\, Eastern culture\, aesthetics\, and how ancient ideas of balance can still speak to contemporary life. \nMore than a sweets-making class\, this is a small cultural experience at the intersection of philosophy\, art\, food\, and everyday life. \n🏮 From Tang Confections to Wagashi\nWagashi is today recognized as a distinctive and highly developed tradition of Japanese confectionery. \nIts long history also reflects centuries of cultural exchange across East Asia. \nDuring Japan’s Nara period\, confectionery traditions and techniques associated with China’s Tang Dynasty\, including Tōgashi (唐菓子 / Tang confections)\, were introduced to Japan through cultural exchange. \nOver the centuries\, these influences developed alongside local Japanese ingredients\, aesthetics\, tea culture\, and confectionery techniques\, contributing to the rich wagashi traditions known today. \nFor this workshop\, we return to the ancient Chinese philosophy of Taiji and Yin-Yang and explore it through the art of wagashi — bringing together cultural histories through form\, color\, taste\, and hands-on creation. \n✨ What You’ll Experience\n\nAn accessible introduction to Taiji and Yin-Yang philosophy\nGuided wagashi-making demonstration\nHands-on creation of Yin-Yang inspired wagashi\nTea experience\nEnjoying your handmade sweets\nCultural conversation and community connection\n\nAll materials are provided. No previous experience is required. \n👥 Who Is This For?\nPerfect for anyone interested in: \nEastern culture • Yin & Yang • Taoist philosophy • Wagashi • Tea • Art • Design • Hands-on cultural experiences \nYou don’t need to know anything about Taoism or know how to make sweets. \nCome on your own or bring a friend — everyone is welcome.

An Evening of Mysticism\, Divination & Ritual
DESCRIPTION:An Evening of Mysticism\, Divination & Ritual\nAn Exclusive Academic Salon on Eastern & Western Mysticism · Immersive Ritual Experience · Emotional Release\nPurification Ritual｜Mysticism Salon｜Eastern & Western Protection Practices｜Wax Divination｜Emotional Release \nAn evening dedicated to exploring the mysteries of different traditions. \nDrawing from Eastern and Western mystical traditions\, we will combine academic discussion\, traditional ritual\, and hands-on experiences to take a closer look at mystical practices that are familiar to many of us\, yet often misunderstood. \nOn August 28\, we are pleased to welcome Tara Li\, a researcher of mysticism\, and Wu Shanying\, President of the Taoist Association of New York and a Taoist priest of the Zhengyi tradition\, for a special evening bringing together knowledge\, tradition\, ritual\, and self-exploration. \n01｜Academic Salon on Eastern & Western Mysticism\nWe will begin by exploring the differences between traditional esotericism and contemporary spiritual practices\, while examining some of the systems and phenomena that have gained increasing attention in the Western esoteric scene. \nFrom Traditional Esotericism\, New Age\, energy healing\, and manifestation to increasingly popular practices such as Tarot and Lenormand\, we will look at their origins\, development\, and distinctions\, as well as how commercialization and social media have reshaped the way people understand modern mysticism and spirituality. \nWe will also explore a question that many people are curious about: \nCan practices such as Tarot and Lenormand involve spirits or spiritual entities? \nHow do different traditions understand divination\, symbolism\, spirituality\, and ritual? And as we encounter more and more information about mysticism online\, how can we develop a clearer understanding and the ability to distinguish different traditions and practices? \nRather than simply teaching “mysticism\,” this session offers a structured cultural discussion and exploration of Eastern and Western mystical traditions. \n02｜Opening Purification Ritual\nThe evening will begin with an opening purification ritual. \nThrough chanting\, sound\, breathwork\, and traditional ritual practices\, participants will be invited to temporarily step away from the noise of everyday life and enter a quieter\, more focused state. \nDrawing from both Eastern and Western traditions\, we will also introduce basic space-cleansing and personal protection practices. \nParticipants will learn and experience 4–5 simple purification and protection methods\, allowing them to engage with these traditions firsthand. \n03｜Wax Divination Experience 🕯\nFollowing the discussion and ritual\, we will move into the evening’s featured experience. \nTara Li will introduce the cultural background\, traditional practices\, and symbolic interpretation of wax divination\, guiding participants through their own hands-on experience. \nYou will learn how to observe different wax formations and explore their interpretation through symbolism\, structure\, and personal reflection. \nEach participant will receive a personal ritual wooden piece: \n\nOne side is used for the wax impression.\nThe other incorporates traditional Western runes and symbolic elements.\n\nAfter the ritual\, you may take the wooden piece home to keep and use as a personal talisman. \n04｜Ritual Gift Bag 🎁\nParticipants who select the Ritual Gift Bag option will also receive a special Ritual Gift Bag\, allowing the experience to continue beyond the event. \nThe gift bag includes: \n🕯️ Ritual Candles × 3🪵 Personal Ritual Wooden Pieces × 3🌿 Traditional Western Purification Herbs🌿 Traditional Eastern Incense Ash🌿 Seven Fragrant Herbs & Twelve Essence Medicinal Powder📜 Hand-Drawn Blessed Talisman \n05｜Emotional Release\nAt the end of the evening\, we return to ourselves. \nBeginning with the emotions\, questions\, or intentions written down upon arrival\, we will take a moment to reflect on where we are after the evening’s exploration. \nYou may choose to release an emotion\, a relationship\, a thought that has been weighing on you\, or simply leave a reflection from tonight behind. \nThrough a simple emotional release and closing ritual\, we will bring the evening to a close. \nWhat we carry in—and what we choose to carry forward. \nThis is more than an evening about mysticism. \nIt is an experience centered around tradition\, ritual\, self-exploration\, and emotional release. \nWelcome to your An Evening of Mysticism\, Divination & Ritual.
