Nine Emperor Gods Festival | Taoist Scripture Recitation & Blessings

农历九月初一至初九，为道教传统的九皇会，是礼敬北斗七星及左辅、右弼二星君的重要节期。
北斗信仰在道教传统中具有重要地位。北斗九皇与人的本命、禄命、消灾解厄及延生祈福等信仰密切相关。九皇会期间，道教徒通过诵经、礼拜、祈福等方式，礼敬九皇星君，祈愿消灾解厄、福寿康宁。
为迎接本次九皇会，纽约道教协会特别整理了《太上玄灵北斗本命延生真经》简易注释版本，帮助广大善信理解经文内容及北斗信仰的传统文化意义。
《北斗经》讲述太上老君慈悯世间众生所受诸般苦难，传授经法以济度世人。经文强调诵经礼斗、修身积德、敬奉本命星君，以祈求消灾解厄、延生获福。
协会鼓励善信在九皇会期间诵读《北斗经》，也欢迎在平日坚持诵经修习。
家中设有神坛的善信，可在坛前恭敬诵经；没有神坛的善信，也可选择清净场所直接诵读，不必专门焚香或准备供品。
本次九皇会期间，纽约道教协会亦举行传统祈福法事，为善信祈愿平安、顺遂、消灾纳福。
愿以诵经祈福之功德，回向众生，祈愿国泰民安、世界和平、众生安康。

Nine Emperor Gods Festival
From October 10 to October 18, 2026, corresponding to the first through ninth days of the ninth lunar month, the Taoist Association of New York observes the traditional Nine Emperor Gods Festival (Jiuhuang Hui).
The festival honors the Nine Emperor Gods, traditionally associated with the seven stars of the Northern Dipper (Beidou) and the two accompanying stars, Left Assistant (Zuofu) and Right Assistant (Youbi).
In Taoist tradition, the Northern Dipper holds profound religious significance, particularly in beliefs concerning destiny, protection, the alleviation of misfortune, longevity, and blessings.
During the festival, Taoist practitioners honor the Nine Emperor Gods through scripture recitation, prayers, and traditional rituals, seeking peace, protection, and well-being.
To mark this occasion, the Taoist Association of New York has prepared an accessible, annotated edition of the Scripture of the Supreme Mysterious Numinous Northern Dipper for the Prolongation of Life (Taishang Xuanling Beidou Benming Yansheng Zhenjing).
The scripture describes how Taishang Laojun, moved by compassion for the suffering of living beings, transmitted sacred teachings to help people overcome hardship and cultivate blessings.
Through this publication, the Association hopes to make Taoist scriptures more accessible and encourage a deeper understanding of traditional Taoist beliefs and practices.
Community members are encouraged to recite the Northern Dipper Scripture during the Nine Emperor Gods Festival and to continue scripture study and recitation throughout the year.
Those with a home altar may recite the scripture before it, while those without an altar may simply choose a quiet and respectful space. Incense and ritual offerings are not required for personal recitation.
During the festival, the Association also conducts traditional Taoist blessing rituals, offering prayers for peace, protection, harmony, and the well-being of the community.
May the blessings and merits of these practices be dedicated to the peace of the world and the well-being of all living beings.
