Chengze Wu, President of the Taoist Association of New York, traveled to Lüshan, Fujian, to participate in a traditional Taoist ordination ceremony and complete the Lüshan奏职 (ordination) ritual according to traditional practice.
🏮 Lüshan Ordination
Taoist ordination (奏职) is an important ceremony within traditional Taoist systems of transmission and ritual practice. During the ceremony, Wu followed the prescribed ritual procedures and participated in a series of traditional Lüshan practices.
The ceremony included distinctive ritual practices such as “Ascending the Mountain of Blades” (上刀山) and “Crossing the Sea of Fire” (下火海). These highly symbolic practices express themes of courage, commitment, discipline, and dedication to the Taoist tradition.
🌿 Experiencing Tradition Through Practice
For an overseas Taoist organization, direct participation in traditional ritual provides an important opportunity to understand Taoist ritual practice, lineage traditions, and cultural transmission through firsthand experience.
Wu’s participation in the Lüshan ordination further deepened his understanding of Lüshan Taoist ritual culture and traditional Taoist practice.
As President of the Taoist Association of New York, Wu will continue to support the study, practice, preservation, and international exchange of Taoist culture.
The Lüshan ordination represents an important milestone in Chengze Wu’s Taoist practice and cultural journey, as well as the Taoist Association of New York’s ongoing engagement with traditional Taoist culture.
